THE US hit its highest-ever level of flaring and venting last year with a total of an astonishing 1.28 billion cubic feet of gas per day flared or vented according to data from the US Energy Information Administration.

It Natural Gas Annual finds that the percentage of gas vented and flared increased to 1.25% of withdrawals, compared with 0.84% the previous year.
