Apparently sleep deprivation due to noisy roommates has become such a problem that demands have been made on Labor Minister, Victor Norman, to do something to help the sleep-deprived workers.

The problem has even made the national news with Geir Heddeland, union leader on the Ekofisk oil field off southern Norway, saying the problem affects about 700 of the 1,050 workers on that field alone.

This means that one-in-three offshore workers plays the night-time notes so loud that it affects the performance and health of his companions.

On most offshore oil platforms workers have to share accommodations, which means if one of them snores, the other can get dangerously deprived of sleep. This then pushes the problem under the banner of occupational health and safety.

Platform workers generally spend two-week shifts offshore, meaning they have no escape from roommates' nightly noises for the period.

Roommates, often in bunk beds, can also wake each other up simply by getting in and out of bed, added Heddeland.
