One of the aviation company's Sikorsky S-92 helicopters was flown about 14.5km off course, missing its intended target, the Nexen-operated Buzzard complex.

The helicopter, which was carrying one passenger, instead landed on the Ensco 120 jack-up rig also operated by Nexen.

Bond said it was investigating the incident, with Nexen also confirming its involvement in the probe.

Buzzard comprises four separate platforms, interconnected by three bridges, while Ensco 120 is a regular jack-up rig.
