Over the last three years, nine coal bed methane wells (Bohena-1C, 2, 2D, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6H and 7) have been drilled adjacent to the 1964 petroleum exploration well Bohena-1.
Natural gas from conventional sandstone reservoirs have been intersected and gas flowed to the surface from the Triassic and Digby Formation in four of these wells.
ESG said it believes potential gas reserves could be significant and the survey is being conducted to test the limits of the field. The seismic program will be followed by appraisal/development drilling in the middle of this year.
Phase Two of ESG's Whalan Creek Seismic Survey has been completed in NSW's Bowen-Surat Basin. A total of 139km of detailed seismic was acquired in phase One with the now completed phase Two adding 123km.
The new seismic data will now be processed over the next two months and at least one new well will be drilled in the area where the seismic was acquired. One exploration well has been planned for the end of this year.
