Worrior-1, located 55km southwest of Moomba in PEL 93, also further confirms the south-western flank of the Cooper Basin in South Australia as an important migration path for oil.
The well is the third in an aggressive six well drilling campaign between July and Christmas that has already delivered Christies-1 (PEL 92) as a commercial producer in July.
"We have made two oil discoveries from the first three wells drilled, and believe the next three wells to spud will provide significant upside for investors," said Cooper chairman Greg Hancock.
A drill stem test was conducted late on Friday over the interval 1,321 - 1,335m after oil shows were reported in sands near the top of the Namur formation. Further encouragement came on Sunday with fluorescence reported over the interval 1,553 -1,569m in the Birkhead formation.
A drill stem test conducted over this interval resulted in a flow of 2,000 barrels of fluid per day, comprising about 20% oil and 80% water.
Hancock was keen to point out that, when the recent oil discoveries are added to last years maiden discovery at Sellicks, the company was rapidly progressing towards a position were it can generate sufficient cash flow from oil production to largely fund the company's ongoing exploration effort in the Cooper Basin.
"The Cooper Basin is now rapidly emerging as the region to attract investors dollars as the wildcat success rate of a number of explorers continues to climb," he said.
