Located in PEL 110, about 150 km NNE of Moomba the well is currently drilling ahead in the Tinchoo Formation while the Poolowanna Formation was intersected over the interval 2151-2236m with no significant shows.

Semaphore-1 is designed to test the oil potential of the Triassic Tinchoo Formation, Early Jurassic Poolowanna Formation and Hutton Sandstone in an area 25-30km north of Santos Limited's producing Keleary and Telopea Oil Fields. The proposed total depth of the well is 2507m.

Interests in the venture are Beach Petroleum (operator) 37.5%, Cooper Energy 25% and Magellan Petroleum (Southern) 37.5%.
