Hyssop-1 disappoints in Carnarvon Basin

The Hyssop-1 well has come up dry for the Apache, Pan Pacific Petroleum joint venture with only minor gas shows over the target reservoir as the program prepares to move onto the Mosman-1 well.

The well, located in TP7 in the Carnarvon Basin, reached a total depth of 756m and wireline logs are currently being acquired. Minor gas shows were recorded but initial logs did not indicate an economic accumulation.

Following completion of the evaluation program, Hyssop-1 will be plugged and abandoned and the rig will move to TL2 to drill Mosman-1.

The Hyssop prospect was a large fault-bounded closure against the Flinders Fault, associated with anomalous seismic amplitudes. Estimates of potential for the Top Barrow target were 10-30 million barrels of oil.

Mosman is a large prospect in the Lower Barrow Group located 3km west of the South Pepper-1 well where oil shows were observed at this level and where seismic indicates good quality sand to be present. The potential size of Mosman is 20-50 million barrels of oil.

Participants in the Hyssop-1 well are Apache Oil Australia 90 % (operator) and Pan Pacific Petroleum 10 %.
