EXPLORATION

More Mauritanian seismic

A 3D seismic program designed to identify leads for future exploration in the Woodside-operated oil fields off the coast of Mauritania has begun. Seismic contractor, WesternGeco, has already commenced operations for the acquisition of approximately 1,400 sq.km of 3D seismic, according one of the junior partners, Roc Oil.

The program will extend "coverage over parts of the basin the prospectivity of which has been upgraded as a result of the Chinguetti-1 oil discovery," Roc Oil added.

Last year, the Chinguetti-1 well encountered a 90 metre column of hydrocarbons which led to predictions that the new oil field could contain up to 180 million barrels of oil.
