Aramco discovers new Saudi gas reservoir

Saudi Aramco has announced the discovery of a new gas reservoir in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The gas was located in the Shaybah oil field, which already produces an average 500,000 barrels per day.

The gas from the Shaybah-700 well flowed at a rate of 20 million cubic feet and 650 barrels of condensate per day. Wellhead flow pressure was clocked at 1,135 pounds per square inch on a one-inch choke. The gas comes from the Arab-C reservoir located at a depth of 2,382 metres.

Saudi Aramco plans to continue drilling work at Shaybah-700 to evaluate gas potential at lower depths. The Shaybah oil field is located 800 km east of Riyadh.
