Hovea-3 yields 26 metre oil column

Preliminary analysis of the cores from the Hovea-3 well has indicated a 26 metre oilzone with excellent reservoir qualities, according to reports from the partners.

Permeabilities averaging over one darcy and up to six darcies have been measured, and Arc Energy indicated that substantial flow rates should be achieved from the reservoir. While the above figures relate to air permeability and not oil permeability, the end flow rates when the well is completed will prove to be significant.

Stopping that in the near future, however, are troubles down the hole with stuck pipe and fishing tools. A zone that Hovea-1 and 2 drilled through without difficulty has proved difficult on this third well, jamming tubulars in the deviated hole.

Arc and partner Origin Energy plan to cement and plug the problematic zone and sidetrack the bore to complete the well as soon as practicable.
