The well is located at the company's Block K in the Kikeh oil fields in the South China Sea and covers a sizeable area of four million acres. Only a single oil zone was tested and the well was allowed to flow for 15 days with an equipment limited maximum rate of 10,200 barrels of oil per day.

Murphy Oil is the operator and has an 80% stake in Block K with the balance owned by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, the exploration and production arm of Malaysia's state-owned Petronas.
