The Offshore Northland Petroleum Exploration Permit Block Offer comprises five blocks in the Northland Basin, North Island, New Zealand, to be allocated by competitive staged work program bidding, according to NZ authorities.
The blocks range in area from 5229 to 10,018 square kilometres within the 50,000 square kilometre Northland Basin. The basin is highly prospective because it contains a large number of structures (at least seven larger than 100 square kilometres) known source rocks, a recent gas discovery, and the strong likelihood of good quality reservoir facies.
Only three wells have been drilled in the area of this acreage release. The area is considered to be a northern extension of the producing Taranaki Basin based on similar depositional and structural features interpreted from the few wells drilled in the area, and modern 2D seismic data. The region of interest shows potential for a significant petroleum budget.
The Offshore Outer Taranaki Basin Petroleum Exploration Permit Block Offer comprises three blocks in the Outer Taranaki Basin, North Island, New Zealand, to be allocated by competitive staged work program bidding. The basin is highly prospective because it contains a large number of structures, the strong likelihood of good quality reservoir facies in plays equivalent to producing facies in the adjacent shelf area of Taranaki Basin, and substantial untested plays.
Both block offers close on 2 December 2005.
