BHP, Tap, Roc resume Jacala drilling

DRILLING restarted yesterday at the BHP Billiton-operated Jacala-1 wildcat exploration well in deepwater Carnarvon Basin block WA-351-P, following the evacuation of personnel from the Atwood Eagle rig due to cyclone activity, and operational problems setting the conductor in the original hole.

As at 6am Perth time today, the well had been drilled to 1140 metres below rotary table and the current operation is cementing the conductor.

Jacala-1 is about 200km west of Barrow Island and 100km northwest of the Enfield oil and gas field.

The well is expected to take about 18 days to reach a total depth of 2322 metres.

The WA-351-P Joint Venture comprises: BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty Ltd (operator) 55%, Tap Oil 25% and Roc Oil 20%.
