The Perth-based company said as of yesterday the well had been drilled to total depth of 1587m and logging and sampling had been completed.

“Interpretation of logs and fluid samples indicate the presence of an 18m oil column (1476m to 1494m) in the Jurrassic Mid Namur reservoir,” Impress said.

“Forward plans are to case and suspend the well as a future oil producer.”

Chief executive Eddy Buckovic said the oil recovery gave him confidence that the Tomcat prospect will be a commercial oil discovery for the JV.

Interests in the Wilpinnie North Block are operator Santos with 33%, Origin (6.595%), Delhi (10.105%), VicPet (20%), Impress (20%) and Roma (10%).
