The Perth-based company told the market yesterday it had been advised by the Tunisian Department of Energy that the Bargou prospecting permit would be converted into a five-year exploration licence at an upcoming signing ceremony.
Cooper applied for the exploration permit after identifying several “attractive” exploration prospects in the block from 972.7km of 2D marine seismic acquired last year.
Looking ahead, Cooper said it intended to seek a farm-in partner to participate in the seismic and drilling work program planned for the block over the next two years.
Covering 4412 square kilometres, the Bargou licence is in the Gulf of Hammamet, Tunisia, which is considered an emerging petroleum province.
It is also adjacent to the Hammamet licence, in which Cooper holds a 35% stake.
