VicPet, Roma onto next CSM well

COAL seam methane exploration partners Roma Petroleum and Victoria Petroleum have reached a total depth of 492m on their first CSM appraisal well at the Lawton project area in Surat Basin permit PL 171.

Roma, as operator, is running wireline logs over the Paradise Downs-1 well after which the hole will be abandoned.

Eleven coal cores at various intervals between 95m and 441m have been taken for desorption tests to determine the gas content of the coals in this section of the permit.

Spudded last Wednesday, Paradise Downs-1 is a follow-up to the Lawton-1 well, which flowed gas to surface on test from the Walloon coal measures when drilled by Queensland Gas Company in 2001.

The drilling rig is now being moved to the program’s second well, Paradise Downs-2, a core well, 1.5km of Paradise Downs-1.
