AUSTRALIAN explorer Melbana Energy made progress in one of its Cuba exploration deal during the March quarter, but saw it cut costs and have employees take leave without pay to deal with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What may have been the biggest dent in the company's plans was Santos deciding to opt out of acquiring an 80% interest in WA-488-P, after it failed to find a dance partner.
