ACCC issues final NT pipeline decision

Australia's consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has issued its final decision on NT Gas access arrangement for the Amadeus Basin to Darwin natural gas transmission pipeline.

ACCC chairman Professor Allan Fels said that while the consumer watchdog has decided to moderate NT Gas' proposed revenues, it will accept a range of changes that lead to benefits for both NT Gas and users of the pipeline. NT Gas is an Australian Pipeline Trust subsidiary.

"The ACCC has approved a 10 year access arrangement period for the Amadeus Basin to Darwin pipeline," Mr Fels said.

"However, the ACCC's final decision under the National Gas Code does not approve NT Gas' access arrangement in its current form.

"The ACCC has set out the amendments it considers are necessary for NT Gas' access arrangement to be approved."
