The Geelong Magistrates Court fined the company over $53,000, ordered the installation of a number of environmentally focussed initiatives and ordered the publication of the breach of licence notices in the press.

The Environmental Protection Agency laid the charge after complaints by nearby residents and received $16,620 towards costs of the Shell fine. The City of Greater Geelong received $36,500 of the fine.

Shell was also ordered to install energy saving equipment to reduce greenhouse emissions at a City of Geelong facility.
