PNG pipeline to get tax holiday

THE PNG gas pipeline will not have to pay transport tariffs for its 15 years of operation, according to a report in today’s Australian newspaper.

This arrangement will be confirmed at today’s Council of Australian Governments meeting in Canberra, the newspaper said.

The decision reflects a 2004 Productivity Commission report that found Australia’s pipeline regulatory regime was failing to encourage greenfields investment in gas pipelines.
