Eden teams with Indian energy giant

EDEN Energy says it has inked a five-year deal with a major Indian gas company to push the use of Hythane as a transport fuel in the major industrial state of Gujarat.

The marketing agreement signed with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) will see Eden provide all necessary equipment to produce the compressed hydrogen-natural gas fuel blend.

In return, GSPC will help market Hythane and the proposed bus demonstration project planned for Gujarat’s capital city, Ahmedabad, later this year, as well as establishing the necessary standards and regulations.

All carbon credit benefits derived from their joint Hythane operations will be shared equally between the two companies.

Eden described the co-operation agreement as a “further milestone” towards establishing Hythane as fuel for vehicles, power generation and locomotives in India.

“Eden is hopeful that this will be just one of several strategic agreements related to the marketing and rollout of Hythane in India that Eden and its subsidiaries will enter into over the next six to 12 months with various major companies and organisations that operate in relevant sectors of the Indian natural gas market,” Eden chairman Greg Solomon said.

As well as being a major oil and gas producer in India, GSPC has acquired oil and gas exploration interests in two Western Australian offshore permits, and holds a 20% farm-in interest in an offshore block in the Otway Basin in Victoria.
