PNG LNG-driven exploration enters crucial stage

TORONTO-listed InterOil is getting set to drill the final stretch of the Elk-2 appraisal well in ...

The company has drilled the well to a total depth of 2259m just above the limestone reservoir target and is currently rigging up the high pressure drilling equipment to drill into the 610m Puri and Mendi limestone section.

Once drilling is completed, the company will determine the total gas column intersected and carry out a drill stem test at the well.

InterOil also seeks to confirm its theory that condensate quality at the reservoir increase with depth and evaluate the existence of a potential oil leg.

Elk-2 is about 4.7km northwest of the Elk-1 discovery, on which InterOil is confident will underpin a LNG joint venture between itself, global merchant bank Merrill Lynch and Clarion Finance.
