The 350-square-kilometre survey is designed to improve depth conversion and mapping of the Blackwood feature in order to determine locations for future appraisal wells.

Drilled earlier this month, the Blackwood-1 discovery well confirmed 49m of gross Plover gas bearing sands to a preliminary gas-water contact at a depth of 3225m.

Subject to further appraisal drilling, MEO said it was hopeful the Blackwood gas accumulation could underpin its proposed gas-to-methanol project on the nearby Tassie Shoal.

The 3D survey is due to begin on April 20 and is expected to take 25 days to complete.
