LOOK back 12-months and the world was said to be awash in LNG, but when Slugcatcher took a fresh look last week a gas shortage was said to be developing and a project-development boom about to start.

There are two explanations for the change. Either the forecasts were wrong, or something changed to trigger an unexpected surge in demand for liquefied gas.
 
As with all mistakes, and not spotting a sea-change in LNG demand was a mistake, there appears to be one big driver behind the latest LNG boom, and it's the same factor which has driven most commodities over the past 20 years: China.
