CHEVRON Corporation has overtaken ExxonMobil as the largest oil and gas player on the US market overnight, the first time it has been dethroned more than a century ago, while both are being overtaken by renewables giant NextEra.

NextEra ended overnight trade with a market capitalisation of US$145.5 billion, topping Exxon's US$141.6 billion, after eclipsing Chevron last month, which is now valued at $142 billion.
