Japanese firm wins Qatar contract

Japan’s JGC Middle East has won a contract to design, procure, construct and provide services to expand the capabilities of an ethylene cracker plant for Qatar Petrochemical Co Ltd (QPCL).

The Qatari firm wants the plant, located in the Masaieed industrial complex, to be able to crank out around 720,000 tonnes per year from its current capacity of around 525,000 tonnes per year.

According to QPCL, “The expansion will improve operating efficiencies and utilise by-products, which will be sent for processing to customers within the Masaieed complex.”

Completion of the project is expected in the second half of 2006. JGC will receive around US$192 million for its efforts.
