Sakhalin pipework commences

Welding work on large diameter pipes for the Sakhalin-2 project has begun.

The pipes will be laid in two lines and will make up an 800 km section of the total pipeline. One will be used for transporting oil while the other is for gas.

The pipes will run from Vityaz to Prigorodnoye and is due for completion by October next year. Currently, resources from Vityaz are transported via tankers.

Over 1,500 people and 950 bulldozers, excavators, trucks, pipe-lying machines, welding complexes and assorted other equipment are being utilised in the construction process. At press time, it is not clear which company(s) is involved in the construction.
