EIA sees small US market for LNG marine fuel

THE US Energy Information Administration thinks the International Maritime Organisation’s regulations on cutting sulphur in marine fuels from 3.5% to 0.5% from 2020 will have large changes in refining in the US but a slow ramp up of LNG as a marine fuel.

This is largely because retrofitting a vessel to use LNG instead of crude is costly, making most LNG-fuelled vessels new builds and thus a small section of the market.
