18th Energy in WA conference

ONE of Western Australia’s premier industry events, the Energy in WA conference, starts tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Perth.

The 2018 theme is ‘Energy for the Future,' and will see a variety of prominent speakers from the fuel, technology, market, supply, consumer and legislative sector. 
 
Hosted by the Australian Institute of Energy and the state Department of Treasury, the two day conference will host 16 talks and discussion events, and is expected to attract more than 200 delegates and participants. 
 
Speakers this year include APPEA boss Malcolm Roberts, US Department of Energy global partnerships manager Dr Charles Taylor, Australian Energy Council GM for policy and research Ben Skinner and Horizon Energy's acting CEO Mike Houlahan among many others. 
 
Highlights from the event will include a talk on the stronger than anticipated demand for LNG in Asia Pacific from Wood Mackenzie head of Asia Pacific research Gavin Thompson. 
 
Woodside Petroleum opportunity manager for power and new markets Craig Jennings will discuss the right of LNG within Western Australian projects and exports to international markets. 
 
The conference concludes with a discussion panel on the long-term and short-term vision for the energy sector in Western Australia, with panellists including Grattan Institute program director Tony Wood AM, Synergy CEO Jason Waters, Alinta Energy CEO Jeff Dimery and AEMO general manager Cameron Parrotte. 
 
A formal conference dinner will take place at Fraser's Restaurant in Kings Park.  
 
The conference runs from Wednesday the 22nd August to the 23rd.
