Deloitte: Australia entering era of renewables

AUSTRALIA needs to move away from coal and other fossil fuels and focus investment on the lower cost renewable energy sector, according to the Deloitte Global Renewable Energy Trends report that was released yesterday.

Clean energy technologies, such as solar panels and microgrids, are becoming more affordable and competitive and baseload concerns are not the giant problem as some are making it out to be, the consultancy found.
 
Seven trends are transforming the energy sector and technical innovation, cost efficiencies and increasing consumer demand are driving renewables to become preferred energy sources. 
 
The report shows that wind energy is currently the cheapest source of energy coming in at between US$30-$60 per megawatt hour, while solar generated energy came in second between US$43-$53/MWh.
