Rio Tinto to build solar farm to power Pilbara mine

AUSTRALIAN miner Rio Tino is set to build a A$98 million solar plant at its Koodaideri iron ore mine in north Western Australia as well as a lithium-ion battery energy storage system to help power its network.

Site to power two-thirds of operational demand

 
The 34MW solar PV plant is expected to supply all of the mine's electricity demand during peak solar power generation time and roughly 65% of the mine's average electricity demand.
