First geothermal well started in Graben-Neudorf

Deutsche ErdWärme, a regional energy producer for electricity and heat and Germany's largest private developer of geothermal systems, has begun drilling the first of two wells in Graben-Neudorf, Germany, that are required to construct a geothermal power plant.

The derrick being used on the site is 38.1m high, can drill down to 5,000m and has a hook load capacity of 360t. Drilling teams working in shifts ensure that it is constantly in use.
