Microsoft teams up with start-up CO2 capture player

US multinational technology corporation Microsoft has signed a long-term contract to purchase up to 315,000 metric tons of carbon removal from start-up direct air capture (DAC) company Heirloom, marking one of the biggest CO2 removal deals in history.

Heirloom's technology uses the natural properties of limestone to capture carbon from the atmosphere and permanently store it in a range of ways, including in concrete, according to the company.
