Multiplex/Saipem back for Timor Sea pipeline

Multiplex and Saipem have dusted off their pipeline construction plans for the Bayu-Undan trunkline to Darwin, after being awarded the contract for the second time.

The joint venture was successful in initially winning the tender two years ago, before plans for the Darwin-based LNG plant were dashed. At the time, Multiplex and Saipem were the only bidder prepared to lodge a firm, fixed-priced bid, which ConocoPhillips eagerly snapped up.

It is not known if there was a similar styled bid this time around, or if any of the other bidders followed suit with a lump sum bid.

The pipeline sector is currently also bidding for the Blacktip gas development in the Bonaparte Gulf, which comprises a 100km offshore pipeline and a 1000 km land pipeline to transport the gas to its final destination – the Alcan alumina refinery in Gove.
