Saipem wins Qatar-UAE pipeline project

Italy’s Saipem SpA has been awarded a US$350 million contract by Dolphin Energy Ltd (DEL) to lay a 370 km gas export pipeline between Qatar and the UAE.

The pipeline is part of a US$10 billion project envisaged by DEL to create a regional gas grid that will connect Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Oman and Pakistan via undersea pipelines.

In a statement to the media, DEL announced, “On completion in 2006, the [Qatar to UAE] pipeline will transport natural gas from Dolphin Energy’s processing plant in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City [to] Taweelah in the UAE Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”

DEL is a consortium made up of the UAE Offset Group (51% share), TotalFinaElf (24.5%) and Occidental Petroleum (24.5%).
