Pakistan sends experts to eye over Iran-Pakistan pipeline

Pakistan has sent a four-member expert team to Iran to hold discussions concerning the proposed US$2.5 million Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

According to reports in the Pakistani media, the team would also be visiting the site from where Iran would export gas to Pakistan and where the gas pipeline would cross the border.

According to the reports in Pakistan’s Daily Times, “The four-member technical team, headed by Rashid Lone, managing director of Inter State Gas System, would visit the South Pars gas field and would be briefed about the potential of gas reserves in it.”

“The Pakistan team would also examine as to whether any other country have the claim for importing gas from the said [site].

Iran faces competition from Turkmenistan for the export of gas to Pakistan through Afghanistan [and] Russia had put up claim to import of gas from the field, where the gas was to be exported to Pakistan,” added the paper.
