NT budget to support oil and gas development

The Northern Territory Government is expected to highlight the growing importance of oil and gas to the region in today’s budget by dedicating almost $20 million to help fund the construction of a bulk handling facility, oil pipelines and a modern incinerator at East Arm Wharf in Darwin.

Outlining the significance of the funding Transport and Infrastructure Minister Dr Chris Burns said the financial support forms part of the Northern Territory’s biggest budget spend on infrastructure.

Funding will be divided into three sections with $7 million dedicated for a bulk loading facility, $2 million for a new incinerator and $10.3 million for oil pipelines and associated equipment for bulk fuel liquids.

Stage Two of the East Arm Wharf development has an overall budget of $93.2 million, including the construction of oil transfer pipelines, and is expected to be completed later this year.
