According to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KNA), “The study estimated that investments in gas, refining and petrochemical projects in Arab states during 2002-2006 will amount to US$63.5 billion; with US$36.5 billion for natural gas projects, about US$20 billion for the petrochemical projects and the rest for refining projects.”
“The study further noted that to maintain and increase the capacity of oil production, Arab countries need another US$49 billion dollars during the same period, [with] most of the investments will come from international banks due to the limited financial capabilities of Arab banks,” added the KNA.
It is believed most of the investments, should they come in, will be ear-marked for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
