An explosion at BP’s Texas City refinery on March 23, 2005, killed 15 workers and injured about 170 others.
AFP on Saturday reported that BP confirmed a settlement had been made to two workers injured in the disaster for an undisclosed sum.
“We confirm that there has been a settlement. The details are confidential,” AFP quoted Houston-based BP spokesman Neil Chapman as saying.
BP has set aside over $US1 billion ($A1.26 billion) for potential compensation claims related to the blast.
The lawyer for the two latest settlements, Brent Coon, said he was still handling 150-160 outstanding cases against the company.
AFP reported that Coon had already won a settlement for family members of workers who died in the explosion at the industrial plant.
US government investigators who probed the cause of blast found that critical equipment at the refinery was “unsafe” and “antiquated” before the explosion.
There are over 500 cases overall pending against BP related to the blast.
