As a result, the merged company will be listed on both the Australian Securities Exchange and London's AIM.
Gawler listed on the ASX in September 2006 as a uranium and base metals exploration company.
Two months later, Aurora announced it was exchanging a 30% interest in a shallow-water Texas Gulf Coast project for a major shareholding in Gawler.
By March, Gawler and Elixir had agreed to combine the businesses to create what they said was an emerging Gulf of Mexico production company with high-impact North Sea exploration.
At a Gawler shareholder meeting 10 days ago, all but one investor voted in favour of the merger, after which the Federal Court gave its approval.
Amongst other things, the merged entity owns a 30% working interest in the High Island oil and gas development project in shallow water offshore Texas.
The project came online at the beginning of this month at 15.5 million cubic feet of gas and 264 barrels of condensate per day from Well A-1 and Well A-2.
The company said it anticipated first cash receipts from the wells' production in November.
In addition to High Island, the new company's portfolio of assets includes North Sea exploration licences containing drillable prospects.
