NSW Energy Minister Ian Macdonald said the new working group will be chaired by the Department of Water and Energy and includes representatives from a range of stakeholder groups such as industry associations, environmental groups and government departments.
In late 2006, the NSW Government extended the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS) beyond 2012 or until a national ETS was implemented and made provisions for GGAS to end when a national ETS was in place.
"NSW is committed to leading the way in transitioning to a national scheme, while at the same time ensuring those who are participants in our existing scheme are not unreasonably impacted in the transition process," said Macdonald.
