African gas talks

THE governments of Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and Ghana have signed a memorandum of understanding to begin discussions on creating a regional gas company for the neighbouring countries.

African gas talks

Gabriel Lima, minister of Mines, Industry and Energy in Equatorial Guinea, met with the Ivory Coast Minister of Petroleum and Energy Adama Toungara, and the Minister of Energy and Petroleum in Ghana, Armah Buah, to discuss the proposal.

The ministers met in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan.

The benefits of a regional gas company would include new sources of revenue, job creation and greater access to gas for power plants, industry and households.

The parties have agreed to share the cost of a feasibility study into the project over the coming months.
