Jack-up leg collapse kills 2 rig workers

ANOTHER disaster has hit Mexico's state oil company Pemex with two workers killed and at least 10 injured when the Troll Solution jack-up rig tilted into the Bay of Campeche after a leg failed yesterday.

Jack-up leg collapse kills 2 rig workers

An aerial photo of the lop-sided, ocean-embracing rig has been spread on Twitter with the long black lines of two separate oil leaks clearly visible on the water's surface.

However, Pemex said the leak was not related to the production facilities and believed it came from diesel stored on the rig.

Typhoon Offshore has confirmed that two of its workers died when one of the legs on its rig "collapsed" while it was positioning to undertake maintenance work for Pemex's Caan Alf production platform in offshore Mexico.

Pemex said 101 workers were evacuated and, in its last update, revealed the rig was continuing to tilt from the leg fault.

The accident follows the April 1 fire disaster on Pemex's Abkatun Alpha production platform, which killed at least four people, left three missing, caused dozens to be injured and 301 evacuated.
