SHELL has declared force majeure, halting exports of crude oil from its Forcados terminal in southern Nigeria because of a series of leaks in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation-operated Trans Forcados pipeline.

Forcados is one of Nigeria's main export terminals with a capacity of 400,000 barrels of oil per day, almost one quarter of Nigeria's entire daily output of two million per day.
