An Alyeska spokesman said the damage done to the pipeline's supports by the weekend's 7.9 magnitude earthquake have been repaired sufficiently to restart operations and the company will continue to do additional repair and inspection work.

"`We won't know until later tomorrow at what capacity we'll be operating,'' said the company official. "We probably will aim for a very slow and methodical restart, particularly around the sections that sustained most of the damage."

Alyeska earlier said that tanker loadings at the port of Valdez have stopped because of the shutdown of the pipeline. One tanker has loaded since the earthquake, depleting stockpiles on hand at the port, the company said.

The pipeline normally moves about 1 million barrels of oil a day to Valdez from fields at Prudhoe Bay.
