Nautronix wins $22m Chile contract, NASnet a 'success'

Nautronix's US-based subsidiary, MariPro Inc, has won a $22 million contract to install an underwater listening device designed to detect nuclear explosions.

Work will commence almost immediately installing the hydroacoustic data acquisition system at Juan Fernandez Island in Chile for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.

Nautronix said it has previously been involved in the installation of a similar acquisition system located off the south-west coast of Australia near Augusta, which was completed in 2001.

In other Nautronix news, the company has described the trial of its underwater communication system known as NASnet has having "exceeded all objectives and expectations and was a huge success." Nautronix said the next step for the system will be a commercial trial due to take place before June. Nautronix added it is marketing the system to major offshore oil and gas companies as the system is operable in both shallow and deep waters, making it ideal for ultra deep water work.

The company is currently the subject of a 69c per share takeover bid by First Tech, a Scottish company owned by oil entrepreneur, Mr Ian Suttie.
