McLaughlin has over 25 years experience in the petroleum industry, of which the last 20 years has been working with BHP Billiton Petroleum (BHP).
His most recent position was as vice president Global Exploration, based in Houston, where he had overall stewardship of BHP's global oil and gas exploration businesses.
McLaughlin's extensive international background has focused on exploration, appraisal and business development, and in addition he has held key roles in marketing and strategic planning. He starts on July 1.
