"I welcome the decision by BP Australia, and I now call on Queenslanders to show their support for a cleaner environment by switching to ethanol-blended fuel in Mackay, Nambour and Bundaberg," said Environment Minister Dean Wells.
"Following on from the successful BP Ethanol (E10) fuel trial conducted earlier this year, I am confident that Queenslanders will continue to support an ethanol-blended fuel."
In announcing the trial, George Nicolaides, BP general manager for Queensland and BP's Bulwer Island Refinery, said BP believed ethanol blends have a role to play in Australia as a green fuel and as an octane enhancer.
Despite the continuing debate about the benefits of ethanol additives and any impact they may have on the performance of vehicles, Wells maintained that E10 has the capacity to reduce fossil-fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
"E10 delivers other benefits including increased regional development and increased employment for Queenslanders."
