In a statement Nippon Oil said, “[We have] suspended shipping of oil products from three of [our] seven refineries: Osaka refinery, Mizushima refinery in Okayama Prefecture, and Marifu refinery in Yamaguchi Prefecture.”

According to Kyushu Oil Corp, “[We have] halted refined product deliveries by sea from [our] 155,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Oita Prefecture Tuesday evening [but our] refining operations there haven’t been affected [by the typhoon].”

Nippon Mining Holdings Inc’s oil refining unit Japan Energy Corp has also suspended all “waterborne deliveries from its Mizushima refinery”.

It is understood such suspensions will not have such a negative effect on the country’s domestic supply as refiners often store sufficient stocks to cover emergencies like typhoons and earthquakes.
