The Perth-based company, which is participating with a 5% working interest, said the well is currently being completed over the successful interval in the Lower Miocene Lentic Jeff sands.

The well was drilled in 37m of water on the S/2 SW/4 of High Island Block 24L.

To fast-track production, US-based operator Walter Oil & Gas is investigating the costs and design for a production facility.

Entek and its Gulf of Mexico partners recently won three offshore blocks in the State of Texas lease sale that are contiguous to the discovery tract. The company paid just over $US374,000 ($A494,000) to acquire a 5% in the blocks, which cover 2880 acres (1165.5 hectares) around the discovery well.
